The Italian women’s volleyball team beat continental rivals Serbia on Wednesday morning in the fourth and last quarterfinal to advance to the semifinals for the first time in history.
The winners of the 2024 Volleyball Nations League beat the world champions 3-0 (26-24, 25-20, 25-20) and will now have to play against Turkey.
The men’s volleyball team lost in straight sets against France this morning.
Meanwhile, Gianmarco ‘Gimbo’ Tamberi on Wednesday qualified for the men’s high jump final.
The athlete, who was taken to hospital Sunday with a high fever possibly due to kidney stones, did not jump higher than 2.24, failing three attempts to reach 2.27.
However, he qualified among the group of top 12 athletes, along with another Italian, Stefano Sottile, who jumped the same height.
This morning, Italy won the bronze medal in the men’s team pursuit cycling race.
Azzurri Simone Consonni, Filippo Ganna, Francesco Milan and Jonathan Milan beat Denmark to the medal.
Australia won gold while Great Britian finished second.
