Snow ploughs were operating in the Sicilian capital of Palermo on Monday after a blanket of snow blocked roads.
It also snowed in the nearby Aeolian Islands, which were cut off from the rest of Italy due to rough seas.
It was snowing in Calabria and temperatures of -13°C were recorded in the southern region’s Sila mountain area.
Icy conditions caused a truck to overturn in Sardinia, but the driver escaped without injuries.
