Despite controlling most of the game and firing off an impressive 21 shots, Juventus could not find the breakthrough and were ultimately undone by a moment of quality from the home side.

The first half was largely a Juventus procession. The Bianconeri enjoyed prolonged spells of possession and territory, probing Cagliari’s compact defence with a variety of patterns from both wide and central areas.

Kenan Yıldız, Fabio Miretti and Jonathan David were all involved in creating pressure, but clear openings were at a premium and goalkeeper Elia Caprile stood firm for Cagliari on several occasions.

A penalty initially awarded to Juventus in the 15th minute was overturned after a VAR check, leaving both sets of fans on edge and the scoreline unchanged at the break.

Cagliari continued to defend resolutely after the interval. Their patience paid off in the 65th minute when Luca Mazzitelli struck a stunning volley from a free-kick delivery, giving the visitors the lead against the run of play.

Juventus responded by increasing their attacking intent, but good opportunities were spurned. Yıldız’s effort late in the game rattled the woodwork, while several other attempts were blocked or saved, leaving the visitors frustrated.

The defeat is a harsh setback for Juventus in the race for Champions League places. For Cagliari, however, the win is a huge in their fight against relegation—giving them a five-point buffer from the drop.
