Of the known victims, 264, or 35 per cent of the total, were under the age of 18, with a prevalence of girls (168 out of 264).

The report also said in 2022 850 people were taken into care by the anti-trafficking system, of whom 59 per cent were female and 1.6 per cent were minors.

The main country of origin of victims was Nigeria (46.7 per cent), followed by Pakistan (8.5 per cent), Morocco (6.8 per cent), Brazil (4.5 per cent) and Ivory Coast (3.3 per cent).

Sexual and labour exploitation were the main forms of abuse, representing respectively 38 per cent and 27.3 per cent of the total, according to the report.

Save the Children also highlighted how often the children of farm labourers in the provinces of Latina in Lazio and Ragusa in Sicily already work at the age of 12-13 and are ‘invisible’ to institutions.
