The event was bigger and better than ever!
Secretary of the association, Felice Montrone, said that the picnic has been held for 40 years.
“It’s always been done,” he added.
“Everyone collects all the leftovers from Easter Sunday and gets together on the Monday.”
More than 200 people celebrated Easter in the park with games and tournaments, sports and activities.
Montrone emphasised that it’s a time of sharing.
“I bring the foccacia, someone else might bring the eggplant, and someone else the chestnuts,” he said.
“The last thing we do is eat the chestnuts.
“It gets to 5:00 pm and we’re still there, eating chestnuts!”
This year, Pino Lurlo supplied and roasted over 50 kilograms of the best chestnuts on the market.
They are an autumnal food and are great for filling a belly on a crisp evening.
Other volunteers alongside Gianni Carelli, president of the association, prepared and served the BBQ.
The annual Easter Picnic is an occasion of peace and harmony.
The Associazione Puglia Sydney will hold its next event on Sunday, May 26, with the commencement of the Apulian Film, Food and Culture Festival.
