It’s the first time an artist of his calibre will visit Perth, where he will perform as part of his Australian tour.

The acclaimed tenor said the tour is part of a promise he made to fellow tenor, Giuseppe Bertinazzo, who saved him and his wife Marta from drowning in Tel Aviv, Israel.

A budding star at the time, Domingo promised Bertinazzo that one day, when he reached the peak of his career, he would come to Australia, in particular Perth, and pay tribute to his saviour.

Domingo will perform at the Perth Entertainment Centre and in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.

The star will then head to New York for performances at the Metropolitan Opera House.

Some have expressed concerns about the acoustics of the Perth Entertainment Centre and whether or not it will do Domingo’s magnificent voice justice.

The huge venue is usually used for ice shows, tennis matches and basketball games.

When it has hosted rock concerts in the past, the acoustics were a disaster.

Alarmed by this, Paul Huhes of the International Management Group – which organised Domingo’s Australian tour – arrived in Perth recently.

After checking out the venue, Huhes assured us that the concert would go ahead perfectly with the help of a new amplification system that has already been tested in New York, Melbourne and Sydney.

Peter Ratcliff and Paul Stannering will take care of the acoustics during Domingo’s concerts both here and in Singapore.
