The Vespa is white and features the Vatican coat of arms.
The scooter’s number plate is BF362918, which represents the initials of the pope’s surname, Bergoglio, his papal name, Francis, the year of his birth, 1936, and the date the Vespa was presented to him, September 2, 2018.
The pope was also gifted a white helmet, though the 81-year-old doesn’t plan to ride the Vespa.
Papal Almoner Cardinal Konrad Krajewski gave the Vespa a test drive on Sunday and plans to auction it off for a good cause, the Vatican announced.
Around 600 Vespa drivers on Sunday parked their scooters inside the Vatican to partake in the midday Angelus prayer delivered by Pope Francis.
