Pope to receive pro-LGBT, women priest group

Pope Leo XIV is, for the first time, to receive a Catholic association that advocates for greater LGBT rights within the Church, the ordination of women priests and priests getting married, the Vatican said Thursday.

The meeting is part of the celebrations for this year’s Jubilee Holy Year.

Representatives of the We Are Church group will participate in the Jubilee of the Synod in the Vatican at the end of October, it said.

This is a first, considering that the international movement is at odds with the Holy See on numerous issues, from the LGBT issue to the ordination of women, from priestly marriage to economic reforms.

The movement has been invited to the Vatican by Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod, from October 24 to 26.

Participants will pass through the Holy Door and “will also meet Pope Leo XIV”, as the Vatican news portal also reports.

The Vatican is against women priests and clerical marriage, while it says only chaste gays may take part in rites.
