Tajani said the alleged interference was part of the “hybrid war” Moscow has been waging since invading Ukraine.

“Putin is conducting a hybrid war and trying to influence the European elections, trying to divide the West,” Forza Italia (FI) leader Tajani said.

“But we are all united in the defence of Ukraine,” he said, adding that “NATO’s unity is not on the line.

“That said, we want peace.”

Tajani reiterated that Italy will not be among the Western nations to allow Kyiv to use the weapons it provides to hit targets in Russian territory.

“We are only in favour of Italian weapons being used only for defence within Ukrainian territory,” he said.
