The new rules will come into force at midday on Friday.

Venues will have to follow strict health advice and create defined sections for groups of people, in line with the approved COVID Safe Industry Plan.

Conditions included maintaining social distancing, ensuring each person has seven square metres, and they don’t share towels or water bottles.

“[In gyms and fitness studios] we need people to cohort in groups of 20,” Dr Young said.

“So, in a space like this, they’ll be able to create different areas that people gather in that area.

“Because it’s all about the numbers of people you come across.”

No new cases were recorded in Queensland overnight, but one new case has been added to the cumulative total, bringing it to 1060, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said today.

Queensland has recorded just one new case over the past week.
