The oil on poplar painting featuring the Madonna, St John the Baptist and Mary Magdalene at the feet of the crucified Jesus has been dated between 1419 and 1424 and starts off at an asking price of £4-6 million.

Authenticated by Christie’s UK Vice President Francis Russell and first published in Burlington Magazine in May 1996, the 60x34 cm tempera-on-gold leaf work aroused great enthusiasm among Angelico experts when it was rediscovered.

Currently on show at Christie’s In New York, it will be one of the biggest draws at Christie’s Old Masters Part One sale scheduled for July 1-6.
