The Australian-Italian Leaders of Tomorrow (ALTO) association hosted its first event of the year on Thursday, May 5.

The Italian community turned out in enthusiastic droves, crowding the Penny Young restaurant in Moonee Ponds.

“The most gratifying news is that we have passed the worst of it,” said ALTO president David La Greca.

“I cannot express how grateful we are to have you here tonight, showing your support for both ALTO and the Italian community.

“It’s nice to see so many familiar faces, friends and long-term supporters, as well as newcomers that we can’t wait to meet!”

Over the past two years, ALTO has been forced to rethink their goals and initiatives.

Traditionally, ALTO’s focus has been on the organisation of networking events, where the committee could facilitate the personal and professional development of members.

During the pandemic, ALTO strove to give back to their community, donating over $2000 in vouchers to support their sponsors in the food industry.

La Greca welcomed two new committee members: Vanessa Garretto and Linda Zinni.

The president also highlighted some of the initiatives carried out via Zoom during the course of the pandemic, and welcomed the collaboration of ALTO’s new media partner, Il Globo.

“We are always looking to meet new people and expand the ALTO network,” La Greca said.

“We can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
