Civil Protection Chief Fabrizio Curcio has confirmed that a woman and four children have been pulled from the rubble, while five other people are still to be extracted.
"[It has been] a complicated day but not without positive elements," Mr Curcio added.
The first to be rescued was the eight-year-old son of Giampiero Parete, a survivor who raised the alarm on Wednesday without a response.
Mr Parete’s wife was then rescued, before three other children were pulled from the ruins after being trapped for more than 40 hours.
Rescuers are hoping that another five or six people may be pulled out alive over the coming hours.
One of the five victims has been identified as the resort's head waiter, Alessandro Giancaterino.
Local sources have confirmed that Mr Giancaterino was the brother of the former mayor of local ski town Farindola.
Other deaths have been reported following a chain of extreme weather conditions which has hit central Italy over the past weeks.
A 74-year-old man was found dead in a stable in the town of Faiete, having succumbed either to hypothermia or the carbon monoxide fumes from a nearby generator.
The body of one of the two people missing since Friday at Poggio Umbricchio, part of the mountain village of Crognaleto, was also recovered.
At Ortolano, part of Campotosto near L'Aquila, the body of an elderly man struck by an avalanche was found, while the mayor sounded an alarm as the threat of another avalanche arose.
