The film is directed by Michele Placido and stars Riccardo Scamarcio in the role of the tormented artist, embodied in all of his profound contradiction.
The international cast also includes Louis Garrel, Isabelle Huppert, Micaela Ramazzotti, Tedua, Vinicio Marchioni and Lolita Chammah. These stars will be joined by Alessandro Haber, Moni Ovadia, Brenno Placido, Maurizio Donadoni, Lorenzo Lavia and Gianfranco Gallo.
The film, produced by Goldenart Production in collaboration with Rai Cinema, has recently dropped its official trailer.
The drama is said to explore the complex personality of the painter, “rebellious and restless, devout and scandalous, independent and transgressive,” a note explains.
"The Caravaggio that Placido presents is a tortured artist of absolute talent, but above all an avant-garde rock star, a rebel without a cause forced to face the disturbing implications of a reckless life, with its women and demons, in which genius and unruliness coexist to give us a timeless character and a fascinating, universal icon."
