Robert Plant sings praises of Macerata and its people

Former Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant was left enchanted by the charms of Marche capital Macerata and its historic Sferisterio classical music venue after playing there on Monday night.

“Italian heartland Macerata...remarkable evening .. warm welcome to say the least,” the 75-year-old West Bromwich-born singer posted on his Instagram page.

The rocker has been a solo artist for many years post-Led Zeppelin and performed on Monday with Portuguese singer Suzi Dian, one of his regular duet partners. He also performs regularly with American bluegrass-country singer and fiddler, Alison Krauss.

Plant was backed by his latest band Saving Grace, a name that reflects a pledge to give a hefty chunk of proceeds to saving the planet from the climate crisis.

The Brit posted a snap of the top of the Sferisterio illuminated by warm lights and topped by a cloudy sky in which a moon peeps out.

“I was there! Great feeling, awesome sound and amazing band”, “It seems magic” and “it takes your breath away”, and “Thank you Mr. Plant, a wonderful and unforgettable evening” were just a few of the many fans’ comments on Plant’s page in response to his post.
