The home side thought they were ahead in the 7th minute, but VAR ruled a part of Andrea Belotti’s foot to be offside.
Ten minutes later saw Belotti get on the scoresheet and stay there, after he brought down Diego Llorente’s long ball, took it past the defender and slotted it through the legs of Guillermo Ochoa.
The visitors were level in the 36th minute Antonio Candreva was left free to run into the box and blast the ball into the roof of the net.
Candreva had his second four minutes after the break, and it was a spectacular goal.
Receiving a switch on the edge of the box, his first touch cut inside before his left-footed shot curled the ball into the left post.
Belotti was not to be outdone, however, and had a brace of his own in the 82nd minute when he headed in Leandro Paredes’ corner.
Not the start to the season that Roma would have wanted, but for Salernitana it was a valuable point on the road.
