Possession was roughly equal as Genoa created 20 shots on goal to Roma’s 16.
Rome went close through Artem Dovbyk in the 32nd minute, but his close-range effort went straight at Genoa keeper Pierluigi Gollini.
Stephan El Shaarawy went close less than two minutes later as his effort produced a brilliant reflex save from Gollini.
The Roma onslaught eventually paid off in the 37th minute. Gollini saved the initial shot by Niccolò Pisilli and even managed to get a glove on the follow up by Dovbyk, but it wasn’t enough to keep the ball out.
In the second half Gollini continued to keep Genoa in the game, saving a close-range volley from Dovbyk who by now should have been on a hattrick.
Gollini’s ability to keep Roma to one goal eventually paid off. In the sixth minute of what was supposed to only be four minutes of added time, Koni De Winter rose to meet Vitor Oliviera’s cross to head in the equaliser from the edge of the six-yard box.
Roma are currently 16th on the table with three draws and a loss from four matches. Genoa is 10th.
