That doesn’t mean the club hasn’t made any meaningful signings, however. They’ve brought in both midfielder Houssem Aouar and centre-back Evan Ndicka from Lyon and Frankfurt respectively, both for free.

Aouar made 179 appearances for Lyon, while Ndicka made 134 for Frankfurt. At 25 and 23 years of age respectively, they’re young yet have plenty of experience.

They’ve also brought in Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente from recently-relegated Leeds United on loan, as well as PSG’s Renato Sanches, also on loan.

So, impressive stuff on a budget.

Roger Ibañez has departed the club for Al-Ahli for 28.5 million euros, while Justin Kluivert was sold to Bournemouth for 11.2 million.

Il Globo verdict: It looks as though Roma executives watched the movie Moneyball and think they can pull off something similar. Despite spending no money, it could be argued the free players they’ve brought in have made the squad better. We think they’ll do better than last season.

Prediction: 4th or 5th and another Europa League run.
