With possession shared equally, it was Lazio who created the greater number of chances—11 to Sassuolo’s five.

The hosts got off to a fast start, taking the lead in under two minutes when Daniel Maldini finished from point-blank range after some fine work from Gustav Isaksen.

Armand Lauriente equalised for Sassuolo ten minutes before the break with a rocket into the side netting after some excellent passing cut through Lazio’s defence.

Lazio would have the last say in the 92nd minute, however, as Adam Marusic headed Matteo Cancellieri’s cross home to seal the three points for the Romans.

The result has little significance in the broader scheme of things, with Lazio and Sassuolo sitting tenth and ninth respectively.
