Last week, the traditional Senior Morning Tea, a special event dedicated to raising funds for the Cancer Council, was held with great success at the Sala Michelini of Club Marconi.

Around 170 guests came together in a spirit of solidarity, community and commitment to a worthy cause. The morning began with a warm welcome from President of the Ladies Auxiliary Giovanna Pellegrino, who introduced the guest of honour, Filomena Barillaro, wife of Franco Barillaro, President of Com.It.Es. Canberra.

Filomena shared her moving and personal story, speaking openly about her battles with cancer and highlighting the importance of prevention through regular medical check-ups. Her words touched the audience deeply, offering a message of hope and encouragement to those facing similar struggles.

Representing Club Marconi were President Morris Licata, Vice President Sam Noiosi and board members Antonio Paragalli, Sam Vaccaro and Angelo Ruisi.

The event continued in a joyful and lively atmosphere thanks to singer and musician Tony Gagliano, who got many guests up and dancing with his energy. One of the day’s highlights was a vocal performance by board member Angelo Ruisi from the Bossley Park committee, who sang three songs with great passion and talent, earning enthusiastic applause.

A generous raffle draw added to the event, with around twenty prizes bringing smiles to the lucky winners. The most coveted prize of the day was auctioned off and won by board member Paragalli with a bid of $160.

Guests enthusiastically supported the fundraising efforts by purchasing every single raffle ticket.

The menu was top drawer, delighting everyone there. The grand finale came in the form of Maria Sartoretto’s famous and much anticipated frittelle. A well-known club member, Maria is celebrated for her delicious creations and her wonderful frittelle were the perfect way to end a memorable celebration.

The event once again showcased the strength and generosity of the Italian community, making a meaningful contribution to the fight against cancer and bringing people together through compassion, music and very good food.
