“The big innovation next season will be on-field announcements,” Rocchi said.

“The referee will be able to explain a decision made after a VAR intervention directly in the stadium and on TV.

“It’s a major step forward in communication, which we’ve been committed to with transparency for years,” he added, referring to post-match TV explanations he and other top officials have been giving of decisions for some time.

“Now, however, the explanations will be in real time, in front of everyone.”

Meanwhile, the Serie A and Italian professional footballers union AIC on Tuesday reached an agreement for a possible reduction in the salaries of players of teams that are relegated to Serie B.

It is already possible for clubs to cut players’ salaries in cases where there is already an agreement in place.

Under the new collective agreement, players’ salaries can now be cut by 25 per cent in the case of relegation if there is no such deal.

However, the new rule will only apply to contracts signed after the end of the summer transfer market, so after September 2.
