The visitors dominated possession with 60 per cent, creating 17 chances to Lecco’s 13.

Pietro Iemmello, who had a goal ruled out for handball, opened the scoring with a header from close range in the 31st minute.

The visitors went 2-0 after the break when Jari Vandeputte finished off a cross from Dimitrios Sounas that Lecco goalkeeper Riccardo Melgrati couldn’t keep out, despite getting a foot to the ball.

Lecco were back in the game with a 64th minute goal by Andrija Novakovich who headed in a corner taken by Luca Guidici.

With seven minutes of regular time remaining, Lecco got their equaliser through Alessandro Caporale who finished from close range after a mishit pass from Lorenzo Di Stefano found him.

Catanzaro restored their lead two minutes later when Luca Verna’s shot from an angle went into the far corner.

The visitors had their two-goal buffer back in the 88th minute when Alfredo Donnarumma took the ball around a diving Melgrati before finishing into an empty net.

Lecco made it interesting with an added-time goal through Umberto Eusepi, but it wasn’t to be for the home side who made their season debut after being admitted into the league.

Catanzaro go top, undefeated after four games.
