Meloni’s comments came after talks with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Rome on Tuesday.
The pact aims to strengthen public debt sustainability and promote sustainable and inclusive growth in all Member States through reforms and investment.
“With respect to the proposal seen by the Commission, we think that you can't not take into consideration the investments for this, it would be a myopic choice,” she said.
Meloni also criticised “talking about digital Green transition and then not taking into account the investments (needed).”
The Italian PM said she and Nehammer had discussed “how Europe must work to guarantee security also in the economic sphere”.
“The pandemic and the Russian war of aggression have changed the scenario and this can't not be taken into consideration when it comes to defining the new rules for the stability pact.”
