Focusing on the global economy, foreign policy, security of citizens, and environmental sustainability, the summit has been eagerly anticipated by Italian politicians.
Foreign Minister Angelino Alfano stated that the event will boost Sicily’s status on the international stage.
"I am convinced that, after this G7 has gone well, Sicily will naturally be a candidate for more major events in the future," Alfano said upon inspecting preparations.
After meeting with the Prefect of Messina Francesca Ferrandino, Taormina Mayor Eligio Giardina, Messina police chief Giuseppe Cucchiara and G7 organisers, Alfano reiterated that all would be in perfect shape for the much-awaited event at the idyllic coastal town.
