Sicily is to be the first place outside the USA to train F-35 pilots, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto said Wednesday.

“Sicily will be the first place outside the United States where F-35 pilots will be trained. Just as we are the only country in the world where F-35s are assembled, in Cameri (near Novara in Piedmont),” announced Crosetto.
The announcement came at the Decimomannu air base near Cagliari in Sardinia.
“The future is built not by limiting itself to defence, but by making defence a social, economic and technological innovation engine.
“And this is an example of that,” he added.
