The night will feature a performance of words and music, held together by Scott Fitzgerald’s famous essay Echoes of the Jazz Age, in which Fitzgerald says: “It was an age of miracles, it was an age of art, it was an age of excess, and it was an age of satire.”
The program includes snippets of T.S. Eliot, Groucho Marx, Mae West, W.C Fields and Dorothy Parker along with the music of George Gershwin, Fats Waller, and Jelly Roll Morton.
Bell is one of Australian theatre’s most illustrious figures, having played a role in the development of our nation’s rich artistic culture as an actor and director, and is the founder of Bell Shakespeare.
Tedeschi is one of the most acclaimed and sought-after pianists in Australia, known equally for his performances of Schumann, Grieg and Mussorgsky as well as his Gershwin and jazz collaborations.
The son of barrister and former Senior Crown Prosecutor for NSW Mark Tedeschi AM QC, Simon Tedeschi was described as “true greatness” by John Carmody of the Sydney Morning Herald.
He has a string of international prizes and scholarships under his belt, including taking out the top prize in the keyboard section of the Royal Overseas League Music Competition in London in 2002.
While working with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tedeschi went on to be named the Symphony Australia Young Performer of the Year and was a recipient of a $10,000 Queen’s Trust Overseas Study Award.
Regularly invited to perform for foreign dignitaries, Tedeschi has entertained the likes of Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Prince and Princess of Denmark, Vladimir Putin, George W Bush and Nelson Mandela at events such as the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, World Expo and G’day USA.
The Tedeschi family comes from Turin and Verona.
The jazzy evening will combine dazzling music, a touch of gravitas and just a whiff of nostalgia in a tantalising trip back in time with Bell and Tedeschi – plus the brilliant Best.
Audience members can enjoy a 1920s themed cocktail from the bar before the performance, and stay back for a Q&A and a chance to meet the artists after the show.
