During the match, Sinner surrendered a two-set lead and failed to take advantage of three championship points.
“It is easier to play than to talk right now ... I won’t sleep tonight very well, but it’s OK,” said a crestfallen Sinner.
“I’m happy to deliver this kind of level, happy about the tournament still.
“But obviously, this one hurts,” he admitted after the epic five-hour, 29-minute match - the longest-ever Roland Garros final.
“We tried our best today. We gave everything we had.
“I was a break up in the third, a break up in the fourth, had three match points, serving for the match.
“I came back. Six-five up in the fifth ... so many chances I couldn’t use.”
“We try to delete it somehow and take the positives and keep going. There are no other ways.”
