The 29-year-old of Guinean origin, a former Manchester United player, told police on August 9 he had paid out 100,000 euro to persons he had been acquainted with in the past, RMC Sport said.

Pogba has squashed accusations of witchcraft, so-called “marabout”, of having put the evil eye on PSG phenomenon and France striker Kylian Mbappé.

Pogba’s brother Mathias says he has proof of the latter accusation. RMS Sport said Pogba was being blackmailed by people who think he is in their debt because they protected him for years, ensuring his security.

An investigating magistrate may take up the case in the coming days, the French broadcaster said.

Turin prosecutors opened a probe into the case on Tuesday.

2018 World Cup winner Pogba has 91 France caps and 11 goals for his country under his belt. He first joined Juventus, coming from Man Utd, in 2012, playing 124 times up until 2016, scoring 28 goals for them.

He was back at Utd from 2016 until last term, scoring 29 goals in 154 games for the Red Devils.

Pogba returned to the Turin giants in the close season, and has been out with injury until now.

He is set to return shortly.
