“The Golden Bench means I have to try to be the best” said the Tuscan coach, 64, who is set to lead the Azzurri at Euro 2024 against Croatia, Spain and Albania.
“I can make no promises, but they’ll fear us,” he said of Italy’s opponents in the group stage at the end of June.
The Certaldo-born coach, who had already won the Bench in 2004 with Udinese, also said he wanted to speak to new Italian tennis superstar Jannik Sinner after the 22-year-old South Tyrolean won the Australian Open to take Italy’s first male grand slam since Adriano Panatta in 1976.
“I want to talk to him to absorb his humility and strength,” said Spalletti.
