Spezia dominated possession with 65 per cent, creating 12 chances to Citadella’s six.

The visitors took the lead in under three minutes when Luca Pandolfi hit Alessio Vita’s freekick on the volley from the edge of the box in what was quite a spectacular goal.

Daniel Verde equalised for Spezia in the 38th minute with an excellent freekick that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

Giuseppe Di Serio put the home side ahead three minutes later when he got ahead of his man to head in a cross by Diego Falcinelli.

Six minutes after the break, Lukas Muhl made it 3-1 with a powerful header from the front corner of the six-yard box.

Andrea Magrassi got one back for the visitors in the 79th thanks to the lacklustre goalkeeping of Jeroen Zoet, who allowed a long ball to bounce over him and thereby gifted Magrassi an easy finish.

Luca Moro sealed the points in added time with a penalty awarded for a reckless slide tackle in the box by Edoardo Sottini.

Cittadella are seventh on the table while Spezia are 17th.
