Is your street the cleanest in Lakemba?
Now’s your chance to make it shine!
The competition recognises and rewards residents’ efforts to make Lakemba a cleaner and more sustainable place to live, work and play.
It’s run by Environment@Lakemba, with the assistance of Canterbury City Community Centre and City of Canterbury Bankstown.
Environment@Lakemba is a local group which meets regularly to organise activities, including community education campaigns, clean up days and information stalls at the Haldon St Festival and other local events.
Kate McClean, from Canterbury City Community Centre, said that the competition is about getting neighbours together while tidying up their area.
“It’s about feeling pride in your place,” Kate said.
Competition is bound to be strong, with residents in last year’s competition actively participating through poster distribution, rubbish removal, and with some even making promotional videos to encourage community involvement.
Gloves and bags are provided.
In a press release, mayor Khal Asfour said the competition forms part of Council’s wider campaign to transform Canterbury-Bankstown into a cleaner and greener city.
“More than 10,000 people told us, one of the seven areas they want us to focus on over the next ten years, is to make CBCity cleaner and greener by 2028,” he said.
“But, to do that, we need everyone involved.”
In the 2016 census, 4.1 per cent of residents of City of Canterbury Bankstown reported Italian ancestry.
The winning street in Lakemba’s Cleanest Street competition will be announced at Council’s Carols in the Park at Wiley Park amphitheatre, on Sunday, December 2.
