The request comes following the announcement late on Sunday that Carlos Tavares has quit as CEO of the Italian-French-American carmaker.

“This morning, following the resignation yesterday of the CEO of Stellantis, I sent a letter requesting to hear from president Elkann,” Gusmeroli told Sky Tg24.

“I think it’s absolutely necessary, and I believe the request can be accepted,” he noted, adding that, “It’s a difficult time for the automotive [sector].

“Faced with a complicated problem like ecological transition, there are certainly more interconnected solutions, not just one,” Gusmeroli continued.

“It is necessary to not be divided over a problem that concerns everybody.

“As always, great changes can be great opportunities, we have to succeed in finding the right solutions for a sector that is absolutely vital,” he concluded.

Tavares, 66, resigned suddenly, deepening concerns about efforts to turn around the world’s fourth-largest automaker following the group’s drop in profits.
