Jovic scored a minute after coming off the bench to move his third-placed side to within four points of Juve in second.

The Turin subsequently lost 1-0 to Milan’s city rivals Inter in the Derby d’Italia on Sunday night (Monday AEDT).

Looking to bounce back after last week’s draw with Bologna, Milan took the lead in the 17th minute when Rafael Leao whipped in a cross from the left for Olivier Giroud to head in at the back post.

Leao swiftly went from hero to villain, giving away a penalty when he handled a cross from Francesco Gelli and Matias Soule confidently levelled the scores from the spot.

Soule was heavily involved again in the 65th minute, playing a through ball to Luca Mazzitelli who somehow managed to squeeze it past Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from the tightest of angles.

Milan were back on level terms seven minutes later through Matteo Gabbia.

Jovic came on for Christian Pulisic with 10 minutes remaining and had an immediate impact, reacting quickly to fire into the bottom corner when the ball rebounded to him.

The strike was Jovic’s fourth since the turn of the year.
