The state recorded four new cases of the virus overnight, all of which have known sources.
Werrington Public School in Sydney’s west is closed today for cleaning after a teacher tested positive, NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant said this morning.
Contact tracing is under way and staff and students who had close contact with the staff member will be notified and told to self-isolate.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said more than 9700 people were tested for coronavirus in NSW on Wednesday, reminding people in the state to continue to come forward for testing even with mild symptoms.
Berejiklian warned the state should expect more cases as some restrictions are relaxed on Friday, saying she is “of course” worried about the possible public health consequences of allowing businesses such as cafes and pubs to reopen.
“Please don’t expect the handful of cases we’re getting every day to continue next week and beyond because the increase in activity does mean extra cases,” she said.
The premier urged people to maintain social distancing once eateries and venues reopen.
“Make sure, where you can, to book ahead or ring ahead don’t just go and line up outside of venue,” she said.
“If you are lining up to potentially eat inside a venue please make sure you maintain social distancing.”
It comes after the government announced pubs and clubs attached to a restaurant can reopen on Friday alongside the businesses already outlined.
