Warragamba Public School will be “non-operational for on-site learning” today, after a seven-year-old boy tested positive for the virus.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned parents that case numbers would likely increase as students return to on-site learning across NSW.

“I anticipate it will happen more frequently but please have confidence we’ve gone through the processes and we know what it takes to keep everyone safe when this occurs,” she said.

Additional cleaning supplies and other health equipment was being steadily delivered to schools across the state, she said.

Students will have their temperature monitored, playground equipment will be cleaned and hand sanitising practices will become part of the new normal.

NSW public schools are operating a staggered start system, with a small percentage of kids in class each day from next week.

Some independent schools are already running reduced face-to-face classes.

The 5571 people who were tested for coronavirus on Sunday is a record for NSW.

NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant confirmed 14 people are in intensive care, with 10 on ventilators.
