"I have called for an increase in the number of diplomats in Brussels, it is a key hub and we need to be more present in order to count more," said Tajani at a meeting in Rome.
Italy is the fourth largest economy in the union, but Tajani feels that it requires more diplomatic leverage.
Tajini alluded to his belief that Italy’s representation in Brussels is inadequate to pursue national interests.
"Our French and German friends have an impressive number of people. How can 50 people take on 200?” he queried.
“We have to do more, be even more present, cooperate more even among us Italians … Europe needs us.”
