"I want to be very clear: the Italian government, my party and the leader of my party are against Russia's invasion and in favour of the independence of Ukraine," Tajani, who is also deputy premier, said.
"On every occasion Forza Italia and also Berlusconi have voted against Russia and in favour of Ukraine".
Three-time ex-premier and media billionaire Berlusconi recently said he had a very negative view of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and suggested Ukraine had brought the war on itself.
Zelensky told visiting Premier Giorgia Meloni in Kyiv on Tuesday that the media mogul turned politician, a long-time close personal friend of Russian President Vladimir Putin, had never had to suffer bombings of his home.
Tajani also said in his speech that using a nuclear weapon in the Ukraine war would be a terrible mistake by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"Using nuclear (arms) would be a criminal decision, it would be a terrible mistake for Vladimir Putin," he said.
Meanwhile, Russia's Ambassador to Italy Sergey Razov said on Wednesday that he believes that the majority of Italians want no part in the Ukraine conflict.
He also said Italy's policy of giving military aid to Ukraine following Moscow's invasion make it a party in the conflict.
"By supplying weapons to Kyiv, perhaps against its will, or at least against the will of most of its citizens, Italy is letting itself get dragged into a military contraposition, becoming a party in the conflict," Razov said in an interview.
"Providing increasingly sophisticated weapons and equipment to the Kyiv regime does not bring peace nearer, on the contrary, it just feeds and aggravates the war, multiplying the victims, the destruction and the suffering."
