ADELAIDE - Pellegrino was born in Paduli, in the province of Benevento, on July 2, 1935. He is the son of Enrico Di Fede and Lucia Minicozzi, and brother to Guido, Tomasina Spina, Giuseppina Maione and Enrica. He arrived in Australia on April 14, 1955.

In 1962, he married Elvira Colombo, with whom he had two children, Enrico and Lucy. The youngest members of the Di Fede family are his two beloved grandchildren.

After settling in Adelaide, Pellegrino worked tirelessly to sponsor his family so they could join him in Australia and enjoy the same opportunities he had found.

He initially sponsored Sabatino Di Fede, father of the well-known John Di Fede, as well as many others, ultimately helping bring around sixty people to Australia. In recognition of everything Pellegrino has done, John promised to organise a special celebration for his 90th birthday, inviting family and friends.

According to those who attended, it was a wonderful party, featuring excellent entertainment from Frank and Mira Sangregorio and a superb lunch prepared by the team at the JDF Reception Centre. John Di Fede delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing his deep gratitude.

Lawyer Nic Minicozzi also spoke, offering kind and moving words dedicated to Pellegrino.

Pellegrino’s granddaughter, Alessandra Di Fede, together with her family, sent a touching letter from Italy, which was read aloud by Clementina Maione.

By the end of the celebrations, Pellegrino was joyful, clearly moved and proud of his life and his large, loving family.
