The day was made even more special by the presence of several distinguished guests: Renzo Valleri, president of the Trevisani nel Mondo of Sydney, along with the organisation’s long-serving and highly respected secretary, Eileen Santolin.

Also in attendance was Davide Mazzoldi, the young and enthusiastic president of the Wollongong Alpini Association. Mazzoldi is working passionately to revive the activities of his chapter, aiming to bring renewed energy and spirit to the local Alpini community, which has seen its numbers decline in recent years.

The lunch more than lived up to expectations as the generous and high-quality menu was thoroughly enjoyed by all within a lively and convivial atmosphere.

Giuseppe Querin, president of the Sydney Alpini group and national coordinator for the Alpini in Australia, welcomed everyone and expressed his gratitude to all attendees. He emphasised the importance of keeping Alpine traditions alive, even from thousands of kilometres away from Italy.

A moment of silence was also observed in memory of the Alpini who passed away since the last event.

Later in the afternoon, Querin presented a video of this year’s Alpini parade in Biella, which featured strong participation from Australian representatives. The footage moved many in the audience, filling them with pride.

The next gathering for the Sydney Alpini Association is scheduled for November 2 at Villaggio Scalabrini in Austral. This event, held in honour of Italy’s Armed Forces Day, will bring together all the military associations of Sydney in what is always an important opportunity to remember and pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of many fellow Italians.
