In the heart of Little Italy, Sydney’s Co.As.It. organised ‘Cinema Italiano’, an event featuring Italian films with English subtitles.

‘Cinema Italiano’ transports audiences on a virtual journey into the language and culture of the peninsula, bringing the community together by celebrating cultural diversity through film.

“This event offers a fantastic opportunity for the entire community, not just the Italian community, to appreciate the magic of the Bel Paese’s cinematography,” said Thomas Camporeale, general manager of Co.As.It.

“Although screened in the original language, the movies are subtitled in English so that everyone can enjoy them.”

The event opened last Friday with the screening of Belli ciao, starring the comedic duo Pio and Amedeo, which tells the story of two inseparable friends grappling with an amusing clash of cultures between northern and southern Italy.

For families during school holidays, Wednesday, July 12 at 7pm will have screening of La Befana vien di notte 2: The Origins, a comedy set in the 18th century starring Monica Bellucci that explores the origins of the Befana.

For the romantics looking for something to do, Friday, July 14 at 7pm will see Leaving One Day in Rome playing.

The movie was filmed in the capital, directed by and starring Edoardo Leo, and explores the difficulties of a couple forced to separate after many years together.

Fun is also guaranteed on Friday, July 28 at 7pm with The Perfect Dinner, a movie about a Neapolitan boss sent to Rome to launder money through a restaurant whose path crosses with a chef dreaming of a Michelin star.

All movies will be screened this month and are free to watch. To make the deal even sweeter, Co.As.It. is supplying free popcorn and ice cream.

“As an Italian nonprofit, our job is to preserve Italian language and culture in Sydney and that is why we are offering these films for free,” said Camporeale.

We encourage you to book early as tickets are selling out quickly.”
