Videos of Italians taking part in “musical flashmobs” from their balconies and rooftops have gone viral on social media, while the Italian spirit has been admired around the world.
While some streets in Italy have been playing ‘80s hits and others have enjoyed rooftop DJ sets, a handful of tracks have been particularly popular across the country, according to an official ranking.
The list was compiled by Indie Music Like, or MEI, Italy’s longest-running independent music chart, which publishes a weekly ranking of 250 tracks by independent and emerging artists.
It puts the country’s national anthem, Fratelli d’Italia, in first place.
In second place is Azzurro by Paolo Conte and Vito Pallavicini, while Il cielo è sempre più blu by Rino Gaetano rounds out the top three.
In fourth place is Romagna Mia by Raoul Casadei, followed by Giovanni D’Anzi’s O mia bela Madunina.
Other songs mentioned on the list include: Viva l’Italia by Francesco De Gregori; Creuza de Ma by Fabrizio De André; Certe Notti by Luciano Ligabue; Sole by Lucio Battisti and L’Italiano by Toto Cutugno.
Many residents across the nation have also begun bringing dining tables out onto their balconies and enjoying meals together ... in true Italian style!
