Avondale FC needed a win to give themselves a shot at the title with only one more game left after the weekend.

South Melbourne scored first in the 19th minute, and the score remained 1-0 until half time.

Avondale FC came out inspired in the second half as Trajceski scored to make it 1-1 in the 53rd minute, keeping the home team’s title chances alive.

A dramatic late red card for South Melbourne in the 90th minute gave Avondale FC one final chance to score from the resulting free kick, however the keeper made the required save.

The draw means South Melbourne win the league title. Avondale still have finals to think about, and a win is needed this Sunday in the final game of the regular season to secure second place and a week off in the first round of the finals with a home final to follow.

The Avondale FC women continued their amazing season with a 2-1 win at home to Brunswick Zebras. Only three more games to go for The Avengers to keep their 100 per cent record.
