All the tables were full, and guests—fittingly, for people from a great cosmopolitan port city like Trieste, a true crossroads of Europe—enjoyed a steady stream of seafood dishes: large platters of mussels stewed, natural or garlic-flavoured, or baked with butter and breadcrumbs, along with Pugliese-style lasagne, involtini and generous servings of fresh Sicilian salad.

Ralph De Marchi, the club’s new president, was smiling and clearly happy to be surrounded by family.

“Our celebration in honour of Trieste’s beloved patron saint, San Giusto, has been the most important event on our calendar for 56 years—one our members never want to miss,” he said.

“And it isn’t only about honouring San Giusto, but also about celebrating our community spirit, which drives us to keep our traditions alive, no matter how far we’ve travelled to plant our Triestine roots.”

At the start of the evening, and again during a break in the music, President De Marchi took the microphone amid the bustle of young waiters to welcome members and friends.

De Marchi reminded everyone that the feast of San Giusto is not only a religious celebration but also a moment that embodies the club’s strong sense of community and keeps Triestine traditions alive.

He highlighted the importance of family, friendship and pride in their origins, thanking all members for their commitment and volunteer work—the heart of what makes the club a true home away from home.

“The evening was a chance to share good food, good wine and good company, celebrating our connection to Trieste and to each other,” De Marchi added.

The hall remained lively for the rest of the night, with many guests—perhaps taking turns—filling the small dance floor to the upbeat rhythms of the duo Integrity (Horace and Judy).

“We are all committed to promoting growth, collaboration and new opportunities,” concluded the president.
