Meloni said that it will be necessary to work “together” to build a fair and long-lasting peace in Ukraine, who had been “attacked”, with “strong” leaders like US President Donald Trump.

She also said Trump will not “move away from Europe”, contrary to what “our adversaries” hope.

“Our adversaries are hoping for divisions” and that Trump “will move away from us” Europeans, but they “will be proven wrong”, she said.

“I know him, he is strong and effective.

“I know some of you may see Europe as distant or lost, I tell you it is not.”

Meloni held her speech via video link and called for Italy’s rightful place on the international stage and hailed the “deep unbreakable bond with the US”.

The Ukrainian population is “fighting for freedom” against a brutal aggression, Meloni went on to say in her speech, calling for “progress to build a long-lasting peace”.

“A peace that can only be built with everybody’s contribution, but especially with strong leadership,” she continued.

“With Trump, we will not witness the disaster seen in Afghanistan ever again.”

Meloni also spoke of her “pride” as a European and conservative.

She claimed Europe is stronger today now that more conservatives are in government and thanked CPAC for “[creating] a global network that gives voice to millions of people who couldn’t speak”.

“The radical Left that wants to cancel our history and undermine our identity,” she said.

“[To those wanting to] sabotage the West from within with the virus of cancel culture and woke ideology, we will never be ashamed of what we are.”

“No West can exist without America”, said the PM while stressing that, at the same time, “No West can exist without Europe.”
