Held online from May 14 to 17, the fair saw 140 guests take part in over 60 events live-streamed on the its website and social channels, and broadcast by its major media partner, Italy’s state broadcasting company Rai.

Event organisers said the four-day fair racked up some 1,216,642 views on its socials from almost 5 million users.

Among the most popular events were the inaugural reading by Italian historian and novelist, Alessandro Barbero, and the closing night featuring guests such as: poet Mariangela Gualtieri; writer, director and performer, Alessandro Baricco; and Gomorrah author Roberto Saviano.

As Italy was shockingly hit by coronavirus, with the death toll standing at more than 32,000, the online fair was dedicated to those who have died and their families, along with all the essential workers and medical professionals who have kept the country together during this difficult time.
