Scozzarella, who plays for Parma, and Magnanelli, a midfielder for Sassuolo, were both filmed taking the Lord’s name in vain by TV cameras in weekend games against Inter Milan and Verona respectively.

They were handed their punishment on Tuesday after Serie A league officials examined the footage.

“The footballers were clearly framed by the television footage while uttering a blasphemous expression that could be identified beyond reasonable doubt,” a statement read.

Parma midfielder Scozzarella, 31, will be ruled out of the game with Verona, while Magnanelli, 34, will be out of contention for the clash against Fiorentina.

Italy has strict laws on blasphemy and the country’s soccer authorities have sought to crack down on it over the past decade.

In August 2018, Rolando Mandragora was banned for one match after taking the Lord’s name in vain while playing for Udinese against Sampdoria.

Also last season, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini was suspended after making blasphemous remarks during his side’s game against Spal.
