Lorenzo Lucca put Udinese ahead in the fifth minute when he headed in a cross from Florian Thauvin, who used the outside of his foot to half volley the ball into the box.

Thauvin doubled his team’s advantage early in the second half with a delightful solo effort. Picking up the ball in the centre circle, Thauvin was unable to be stopped as he drove into the box and shot low past Ivan Provedel in the Lazio goal.

Udinese had to play for more than 20 minutes with a man down after Hassane Kamara was sent off following a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Gustav Isaksen.

After peppering the Udinese goal and hitting the woodwork, Lazio scored what was to prove a consolation in stoppage time.

Valentin Castellanos’ shot was parried into the path of Isaksen, who finished into an empty net.

Udinese start the campaign undefeated after drawing away to Bologna on matchday one.
