Ukrainian businessman Eduard Povkh and Russian teacher Tatiana Vaktherova met in the Romagna Riviera resort during the first COVID lockdown in 2020 and have been together since.
They tied the knot a few days ago in a town hall at Montescudo-Montecolombo with both their families present.
“I’ve been here [in Italy] for 11 years, and my husband for more than 20,” Tatiana told the local edition of the north-central Italian newspaper.
“It was a real shock for us both when the war broke out; we would never have imagined a conflict between our two countries.
“Russians and Ukrainians have always been brothers.
“Eduard still has many relatives in Ukraine, in areas where they are fighting. He is very worried.
“But we never allowed the war to affect our relationship, not even for a moment. So much so that we decided to live together at Montescudo, where I have a house, and to get married.”
“After the ceremony we had a little party in the town hall. The friends we have here were there as well as some relatives who had come from Ukraine and Russia.
“It was emotional to get together, all together, as if there was no war dividing us.”
