At Tajani’s request, the Foreign Ministry’s Tariff Task Force has taken action “to protect our products from possible misinterpretations of the EU-US agreement”.
The Foreign Ministry has taken specific steps with the US Embassy in Rome and the EU Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade, and similar instructions have been given to the Embassy in Washington.
“Italy has always supported a frank and constructive approach” with the US, “and will continue to advocate for the correct application of the agreement”, it said.
“We will use every means at our disposal to protect our businesses, our workers and our manufacturing excellence,” the Foreign Minister declared in a statement from the Farnesina.
Tajani added that the Task Force is also in constant contact with the Customs and Monopolies Agency for any necessary technical coordination.
Italian goods, like all EU goods, are subject to a 15 per cent tariff under President Donald Trump’s new legislation.
