The Viola had to come from behind against the resilient Polish side, who made life difficult for the hosts throughout much of the contest.
The first half was a cautious affair with Fiorentina controlling possession but struggling to break down Raków’s organised defence. The visitors looked comfortable absorbing pressure and threatened occasionally on the counter, but the match was goalless at the interval.
Raków broke the deadlock shortly after the hour mark. In the 60th minute, striker Jonatan Braut Brunes capitalised on a flick-on from a long ball forward and finished low at the near post to give the Polish side the lead.
Fiorentina responded almost immediately. Just two minutes later, Cher Ndour produced a superb half-volley from the edge of the box following a pass from Rolando Mandragora, bringing the Viola level and reigniting the home supporters.

The match appeared to be heading toward a draw until drama arrived deep in stoppage time. A Raków handball in the penalty area was confirmed after a VAR review, and Albert Guðmundsson stepped up to calmly convert the spot-kick, giving Fiorentina a 2–1 victory in the final moments.
The result hands Fiorentina a slim advantage ahead of the return leg in Poland, though the tie remains finely balanced.
